Join us for a captivating language arts class centered around true crime stories. This unique course delves into the intriguing world of infamous criminals and provides an immersive learning experience for students.

In the “Infamous Criminals: A Research Project” unit, students will embark on an in-depth exploration of notorious figures from history. Through research and analysis, they will uncover the motives, actions, and impact of these individuals, honing their research skills and critical thinking abilities.

The Lizzie Borden unit delves into a captivating murder case, allowing students to examine nonfiction texts, analyze tone and bias, and explore the art of persuasion. Through thought-provoking discussions, students will develop a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding this infamous crime and its portrayal in the media.

Continuing the focus on nonfiction, the unit on Jack the Ripper explores tone and bias in media coverage. Students will critically analyze the various perspectives presented in articles and reports, sharpening their media literacy skills and enhancing their ability to identify bias in writing.

To further engage students, we will provide a listening guide for the first season of the “Serial” podcast, which presents a gripping true crime narrative. Through guided listening activities and reflective discussions, students will strengthen their listening comprehension skills and analyze the storytelling techniques employed in the podcast.
